Rover 214
« on: 09 February 2008, 14:39:38 »

My guitarist (Tony Hooper ex-Strawbs) has a problem with his Rover 214 on an 'L' registration plate
About 5 minutes after starting from cold the engine dies & will not re-start
He leaves it for 2-3 minutes, restarts & there are no further problems
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?
It makes him late for gigs!!

Tell him to leave 5 minutes earlier and he'll never be late again.  ;D ;D

so its wedge shaped rather than bubble shaped...

need more info on oil, coolant condition, service condition, temperature guage readings, idle speed before we can give a decent diagnosis...

Oil, Coolant fine. Serviced regularly, Temperature is of course cold when the problem manifests itself & idle speed is around 900RPM, but dies after about 5 mins
It's almost as if it's flooding, or if you were to pull out the choke on an old fashioned carburator type

Sounds like it doesn't know that the engine has warmed up and to drop the cold start program. Possibly Coolant Temperature Sensor?

But then why would it behave after having been left for a few minutes?
