Omega Head Unit
« on: 03 November 2008, 17:17:05 »

I dont believe i am asking this as i am a qualified Autoelectrician but my excuse is i have only ever worked on trucks and buses for 25 years so no nothing about car audio so here go's

I have a CAR 400 head unit in my car which talks to the display and works the steering wheel buttons, great, but i would like to listen to a cd now and again but i dont really want fancy amps or speakers but i would like to stick with original omega parts as opposed to the usual JVC fake disco stuck in the dash.which unit would give me the display and still work the steering wheel buttons and have a cd slot.

Sorry for being a bit long winded

Ian

If you are looking for Genuine plug and play options, you can either go for a CDR500 in dash CD player, or go for a CAR400 that has CD changer control (not all of them have this) and put a CD changer elsewhere in the car.

There are a few other variants, but those two are the most popular. There is an SC804 option, but don`t think it runs the steering controls?

Thanks for that, you have confirmed that a unit that fits my needs does exist.

The CAR 500 seems to be the best bet then as i only need to have the one slot and not a changer in the boot as it wont get used(i only listen to one cd,arnt i sad)

Now to find one.............anyone :y :y

cdr500 for single slot, or ccr600 with a seperate 4 or 6 disk changer.  Some, but not all car400s can have the changer added.
