Car phone - is it possible to retro fit
« on: 11 June 2009, 21:06:47 »

Hi.

Just read this link : -
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1244736861

Was surprised as I thought it was the stereo ariel to !  :-? .

Just wondering, as I have one of these stubby ariels on my Saloon, does this mean that all the wiring loom for a car phone is already fitted. And do I need to change the stereo unit for one with the 'phone' buttons on it, or can I get an adaptor for my mobile to conect so that the stereo can be used as the phones speakers & mic ?.

Or would it be easier to forget the changing of the unit and just get one of those car phone bluetooth units instead ?.

Changing to a Phone unit can be quite complex, as often involves much wiring, and changing of displays etc as well. It will only give you O2 and Vodaphone also.

Others will be along shortly to give a more descriptive account of what is involved, but an aftermarket phone kit is going to be considerably easier and probably cheaper too.

if the car is prewired, it means you can easily add a 3rd party kit, eg nokia.

changing stereo to one with phone is a fairly in-depth job

Thanks for letting me know.

I'll scrap the idea of 'change the stereo' unit.  And see if I can either get an adaptor kit of sorts, or go the bluetooth idea.

Both my MV6 and my old tractor were prewired, all you do is plug the Nokia/SE etc kit into the prewiring plug (via an adapter lead) and its done (some may need mic running - I'd run up passenger A post and across to sunroof console).  If you're kit can use external aerial, you also need to extend aerial lead from drivers kick panel to where you mount the kit
