Auto trans queries.
« on: 25 July 2009, 08:32:42 »

I have no torque converter lock up,  i know its only happens above 50mph but still none, and i noticed recently that all the gear select lights sometimes come on all at once, usually first thing in the morning after i have selsected D, i move back to park then reselect and all is well......i wonder if auto box ecu is strugling?

Anyone know where i can find it??

I suspect your selector switch is buggered..

The lock-up can be quite subtle not as noticeable as a usual change..

i never considered lock up to be like a gear change! if cruising at 70mph and i press throttle the revs momentarily increase then drop back a little, usually about 300rpm increase, and this happens at all speeds the tc isn't locking up!

i know on most auto vehicles this is controlled by the auto trans ECU and signals from engine ECU and  coolant temp sensor needing to see 60c to aid tranny fluid warming up... seems il have to get down and dirty with my multimeter at some point!

will look at selector switch some time, thanks for that info

Never known an autobox ecu to fail.

If all the selector lamps light up then it's as Weds says - Selector switch.

Selector lights only do it momenterily in morning usualy, so not a problem BUT i have never had tc lock up since i owned it!

Beg to differ, if the selector lights do it at all then the selector switch contacts are dirty so is a problem.

Fix the known issue - the ECU may be happier ;)

Also, cruise along very slowly accelerating from 40 to 55, do you get a clunky change at about 50mph?

Agreed, the other problem may even be an ecu side effect of the switch being faulty !

as vxl says its rare for a g/box ecu to fail [ mine is the only one ever according to TB!] & your symptoms point to the switch IMO :y

Right oh then guys, il take a look at the selctor switch asap, and no i dont get a clunky change at all, there swift and smooth and always have been...i noticed a few months after i brought the car (had it 3 years now) the rpm would increase slightly then settle back when accelerating at speed, never thought to look into it till now!

Any thanks for all your advice so far, im realy very greatfull......

Do you get an gearchange, smooth or otherwise, when (slowly) accelerating through 50mph?

No!
I have nice smooth gearchanges BUT not at 50 when accelerating gentle past that speed...
