hi guys,
how do i check that the phone aerial is working?
how does the aerial lead go up to the aerial?
tried everything else so it must be the aerial.
any ideas?

Mine uses the radio aerial. If I remove it for the car wash, the signal strength drops, so if your radio is working the phone should, Stupid question, but have you the correct sim card? You need O2 or Vodafone.

saloon is different. Radio is on the rear screen, phone is on the stubby roof aerial

Unfortunately I must disagree   .... the radio aerial in Omega's is the heated rear windscreen element, powered through a radio amplifier. The little aerial on the roof is for 1) phone 2) satnav 

There are connections for the phone : in the aerial base, in the drivers footwell behind the right hand panel, on the radio unit itself.

On my old 2.5 with this problem it was eventually found to be the plug on the back of the radio cage. It is a VERY tight fit with all the wires, and the traffic master loom makes it even worse .. I think someone had the radio out and forced it back in .. dislodgeing the phone connection.

Refited and it worked perfectly ..

My neighbour has a 2.2 Omega, and his radio is in the dash - like mine!

What about my Elite estate though?
It's got a radio aeriel on the roof, but I have no idea what is used for it's phone aeriel.

OK .. if it's an estate then the little aerial is used for both radio and phone ..

Aerial - Saloon models
1 The aerial is integral with the rear heated
screen element.
Aerial - Estate models
2 It is recommended that the removal of the
aerial is carried by a Vauxhall dealer as the
operation involves the partial removal of the
load compartment headlining.
Aerial amplifier - Saloon models
Removal
3 Remove the rear seat cushions and back
rests as described in Chapter 11.
4 Where applicable unbolt and remove the
centre three point seat belt with reference to
Chapter 11.
5 Remove the rear headrests, then depress
the locking tabs and remove the headrest
guide sleeves from the seat frame.
6 Undo the securing screws and remove the
centre arm rest.
7 Carefully prise out the press stud fasteners
and remove the parcel shelf trim panel from
the vehicle.
8 Unscrew the coaxial cable connectors from
the side of the amplifier unit, the unplug the
power supply wiring connector from the front
of the unit.
9 Slacken and withdraw the securing screws
and remove the amplifier unit from the parcel
shelf.
Refitting
10 Refitting is a reversal of removal.

Removal
11 Open the tailgate, then work around the
periphery of the tailgate trim panel and
unscrew each of the securing screws. Lift the
panel away from the tailgate.
12 Unscrew the coaxial cable connectors
from the side of the amplifier unit, the unplug
the power supply wiring connector from the
front of the unit.
13 Slacken and withdraw the securing
screws and remove the amplifier unit from the
tailgate.
Refitting
14 Refitting is a reversal of removal.

I think as suggested above that the saloon is different to the estate. So my comment is probably unhelpful.

In fact since asking the question he's said nothing .....  but we have managed to start an argument !!!

Not a bad result ... but perhaps we should await clarification from l.t ?

hi guys,
thanks for all the answers. and the arguement!!
i have a 99 saloon with a vodaphone sim. will check the connection as it was quite loose and will follow it back to the kickpanel.
will get back to you when i have done this.

how do i get to the  connection on the aerial itself?
