Think the fella means a runlock, not a turbo timer...   

Two different things as the turbo timer allows the engine to run for a preset time of your choosing to allow the turbo to cool whilst a runlock device will allow the engine to run for as long as it has fuel to do so, until either the keys are reinserted and the device switched off or someone activates the footbrake/clutch/handbrake.....   

Turbo timer is pretty much the same deal, you dial in the amount of time you want the engine to run for after key removal.

At least that's the way it works on our one, but it wouldn't surprise me to find the cheaper timers don't let you specify the run on time.

Would think that perhaps the turbo timers are the cheaper option though, as the ones I have seen thus far still allow you to actually drive the car away if its been left unlocked or if its broken into via a smashed window......  Runlocks avoid that by the interaction of the pedals/handbrake into the equation.

Brake & clutch interactively wired on ours, either pedal pushed with the key missing = instant dead engine.
Like you say, you get what you pay for.

No, but I have installed a turbo timer (pretty much the same thing depending on how much you wish to spend).

Should add that I am a sparks by trade, so chopping wiring about doesn't scare me in the slightest.
