Powersounder killing

Darn powersounder is going off at all times, whilst parked. can't disconnect it, cos its dark, and too late to go out and lift the scuttle and remove it. Have disconnected the battery, will that stop it going off tonight? will fix it tomorrow, just want to see overnight out without annoying the neighbours.
Will it be ok???

Unlikely, powersounder has its own internal battery that fails - disconnecting main battery will probably have no effect !

Damn thing............the powersounder I used to have in my old car had a keyswitch on it for "service mode" to disconnect the internal backup battery. Would have been a good idea for VX methinks.......!

No, the thatcham approval of the alarms killed that idea stone dead - no point in the car thieves being able to turn off an alarm with a key now is there

I've heard tell if you lock the other doors then reach in thru the rear passenger door and press the button down on the drivers door, then the alarm is not set. From what I remember with mine the powersounder is set at the same time as the main alarm. May get you out of trouble with the neighbours till you can sort it.

Took a mates out and dumped it in a washing up bowl of water. That stopped it's squawking but not straight away. It did sound funny while it was dieing ;D

Saw a bloke in a pub once do that with his mobile phone, as his wife wouldn't stop ringing him to come home!!

Hi all, this power sounder, is this the only audible part of the car alarm system?  I mean if this is disconnected am I right in thinking the alarm will not go off (i.e. there is no audible noise). :-?

Can the alarm system be disconnected/removed completely?

How much of a drain on the battery is the alarm system?

Is there a separate immobiliser fitted to the car or is this part and parcel of the alarm system?

Any info. appreciated.

Mike ... power sounder is just one part of the alarm, and is only supposed to go off if the battery is disconnected/cut. The "normal" alarm is via the car horns.

Power sounder has its own internal batteries that are always "on charge" .. ie  .. a live feed from the battery as a charge and a connected signal.

Trouble is these batteries fail ... so they "think" the incoming voltage is low and set the alarm off .. or .. even worse, they leak and cause short circuits which can, rarely but has happened, allow the "permanant feed" to act as an ignition source and cause a fire .. :(

Normal signs of power sounder problems are a series of "chirps" on either start or switch off, or the alarm going off for no reason... 

There is a guide on removal and/or replacement of the batteries.

I bought a new one from Vx .. :(

Not quite, alarm has a horn (in addition to powersounder), but this is different to the car's horns :)

Ha!! have killed it for now, found some batteries in Maplins, will fix it this weekend.....

Anybody sell new unbruised knuckles???

Can somebody confirm this is working please?

I've got a 2001 2.6 v6 estate and simply locked the doors (all of them) by reaching 'round from the rear passenger door on the drivers side. The alarm LED on the center console does not flash, so I hence the alarm is not active?

Will have VX specialist to look at it in detail on Tuesday, but till then I need to make sure I can lock the car and get a good nights sleep :D
