Int heater with electric water pump. -00 model
« on: 14 November 2010, 07:58:08 »

So i have that extra pump under the coolant tank, itīs original and it is not working correctly imo.
I donīt know if thatīs been available in your country, but i ask anyway..

Pump works when connected to battery, but when connected to wiring loom it doesntī. Some say that itīs controlled by climate control panel. In my older MV6 1998 that pump worked always when power was switched on.

That pump is great when engine is idling and outside temperatures are low, like now here is -20c.

It is indeed controlled by the climate panel. Best way to test it would be to warm the engine up, stop the engine then turn on the climate panel. It should run to make use of residual heat in the engine. Can't remember if it also runs when engine is running to aid the main coolant pump.  :-/ I can't believe it would make much difference as it's a very small pump. Mine was certainly no different after I removed it to make way for an LPG install but it's not as cold here. ;)

I thought exactly the same thing about the main water pump for the engine, I can understand why G.M. would want to provide two auxiliary pumps on some models, to help it out a bit.

It cools the engine adequately. Anything bigger would sap power for no reason, increase emissions, fuel consumption etc.

The aux. pump on the radiator only runs after engine shutdown to prevent afterboiling.
