Small ECU thing next to battery - What is it?
« on: 15 November 2010, 15:36:51 »

As above. I was changing the battery over for a new one, and when I moved the little fuse box I noticed a few extra wires going into the plug. Further examination showed that about 4 wires from the original loom had been cut, and new wires wired in.

I've traced the wires back into the loom, so can't see where they actually go. Everything on the car appears to behave as it should (other than an optimistic temperature sensor) and I don't have any warning lights.

It isn't an ex-Police car and there are no extra switches or gubbins that don't appear to be factory added.

I can get pics later if necessary, but I assume that its a bodge from somewhere in its history.

Has some moron tried one of those ebay "10,000bhp modification" resistors?

It did seem to be extraordinarily powerful.  :D

But no, not as far as I can see. I'll take another look tomorrow and see if I can trace anything. I assume that its the main ECU then, rather than ABS or anything else?

ABS ECU is on the ABS modulator, near PAS bottle.  Engine ECU is in large triangular box next to battery. The small square box on top of +ve batt terminal on post 98 cars is the power distribution (aka Main Fuses)

It does have an extra relay as well, but I can't find anything extra. No flashy lights, nothing.
