alternator/battery charging

really is worth following the alternator/battery check guide before looking for other faults.

low charging and battery voltage in this case was due to the negative battery crimp connection dropping .5 of a volt.

link as requested to the maintenance guides

volt drop might be in there but just in case.

a volt meter measures the "difference" (there are tech terms long forgotten)

using the voltmeter set to the 20volts range, place one probe on (in this case) on the negative terminal, the other on the engine block.

with good connections/leads the reading should be 0v.

any reading you do get is resistance/volt drop.

best results are with high draw items turned on(heated window, seats, fan, lights)

Biggest give away, although not a guarantee, is if the wires/terminals get very hot ;)
