Towbar wiring loom location??
« on: 16 April 2011, 07:35:42 »

Hi guys/ladies,

I've looked this morning and can't see the posts for it.

1. Can you tell me where I can find the wiring loom/connector to wire up the towbar electrics please? (Prefacelift Estate)

2. Does this support the double sockets as well as singles

3. iirc, halfrauds do a connector kit to plug straight into it or have I lost the plot??  ;D

TIA  :y

Not sure about estates but in the spare wheel well rings a bell. Someone more knowledgeable will confirm.

The prewiring includes a permanent feed capable of 10 amps or so from a fuse in the cabin fusebox, IIRC. For proper dual electrics you would need to fit a voltage sensing relay and, if current draw is likely to exceed this (and if we're talking about powering caravan fridges, etc, it would), an additional fused feed from the battery would be required.

I would be very surprised if you could get a pre-wired kit from Halfrauds.

The tow-bar wiring loom multi-plug/socket is aft of the spare wheel well.
Have a close look in the void where the jack/wheel-brace should be fitted. ;)

However, you may well have to resort to connecting the tow-bar wiring into the N/S/R light cluster, as I did, due to being unable to source the 'OE' loom.
"Hen's teeth" and all that! >:(

Oh, and I didn't bother fitting an auxilliary socket.
Couldn't justify the additional expense/hassle!

I asked andyc to order me a genuine loom to plug into the prewired plug under the trim in the boot of my saloon.

After ordering two different part numbers from EPC he ended up supplying me with a loom that plugs into the two light clusters (& doesn't go near the pre-wired plug :().

I wish you luck sourcing the genuine plug. I came to the conclusion that there aren't any left  :( :(

[edit]In answer to the original question: in my car the prewired socket is hidden under the centre of the hard plastic trim close to the boot catch.[/edit]

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.  :)

I've removed the hard plastic trim around the tailgate lock to find it just covers the metal bodywork.
I can't seem to find this block connector  :(

In the wheel well I can see a wiring loom passing through and disappearing into the bodywork in the centre, heading towards the rear bumper, but thats it  :-?

Not having much luck today, keep perservering and I shall win   :y

Just been out to my Mig and low & behold I found that bloody connector!! :o

It's well tucked away and tie-wrapped to the body work, at long last lol.

9 pine connector. Now just need to organise the towbar electrics and match it all together!  :y
