Do you need to program in a new Powersounder
« on: 20 June 2011, 16:26:17 »

As above, I phoned Vauxhall for a new powersounder and they told me that it would have to be programmed in, otherwise the car will not recognise it.

Is this true or are they trying to get more money out of me. :-?

I can't see what would need programming, to be honest, but will check. One of us with a Tech 2 will be able to sort it if that is the case, though. :y

Well i did think this and that was 2 dealers that told me this.
I changed the batteries in it last year and it has just started bleeping again, but as it only has 4 wires connecting it, i can't see how the ecu can read any information from it.

Thought they probably were myself but there are vague references in TIS to programming the sounder. About as clear as mud, though. I'm sure others have just replaced them with new before, and I don't recall every seeing an option to program the sounder in the tech 2.

I'd buy the sounder and try it. Worst case scenario - if it doesn't just work, pop over to me with it and we'll do the necessary with a Tech 2. :y

It is not uncommon for some of the later Sigma sounders to require programming to a car, so there is some truth behind what you have been told, but that said, I`m not aware of it ever needing doing on an Omega - car is far older than the technology we are referring to
