after being off for 4 weeks now and severely running out of money i am forced to return back to work. nearly 3 months waiting to see a specialist for the problem i have with my knuckle. doc has warned me i could end up having serious problems with my hand if i do heavy manual work. being a shopfiter joiner it is never light.
i cannot survive on no wages yet the nhs insist i wait another 8 weeks before i can be seen.  

anyone else having similar probs waiting for appts?

Pay and go private you will get to see a specialist really quick, and he will work for the NHS and will be able to get you up the list quicker

I agree, its about £150 to see the specialist, but as said once you pay to see him/her they can get you in on the NHS for the treatment.
Sad but true, it does work

Been waiting now for almost 16 months for a specific set of heart tests to be arranged.  Believe it or not, managed to get an appointment arranged today for, wait for it.......  next week!

at the moment i cant afford to go private.but i may do when i get paid, ive now got to work 2 weeks before i get paid too. hopefully once my claim is sorted out i shall get a nice bit of compo and have a nice holiday. 8 yrs overdue lol

I hear a lot of people knocking the NHS. Over the last few years I have had some pretty serious problems and found the service wonderful, quick appointments and treatment with good follow up.
I also find the Macmillan absolutely bloomin wonderful, always having time despite being very busy.
I have 6 monthly appointments with my consultant but can get an additional appointment within a few days if I need one.
I speak as I find.

Ive found it depends on what you present with as to the level of service you can expect to receive

ive found some parts superb (macmillan) other parts dreadful :-/ ...i wish some of the many thousands of managers could organise the basic task of getting the wards cleaned,to try to stop all those people dying from hideous infections.i believe the mail said recently that there are far more people dying from infections picked up in hospitals than are dying on the roads   ,in a country as rich as this one there is simply no excuse .another rant over

i've only ever had to call it in once but private healthcare is well worth it... comes free with the job though hehe.

had surgery on me knee once, but before that the specialist had no idea what was causing the problem (neither do i btw). So he called for an MRI and loads of other scans and they only took a week to book in and get it done. On the NHS that woulda taken at minimum 6 - 8 monhts!

the very first m.r. scan for me took 17months  From seeing the doctor to having the scan, plus another 5 months for an appointment to discuss the results of the scan.So all in all 22months for what should have been a straightforward treatment

Yeah me too, great service nice people on the whole - i suppose it depends where you are in the country.
