so much for local tyre fitters...
« on: 29 September 2011, 10:48:00 »

Went down to get some new tyres as I needed some for the MOT, I came back home to drop some things off, then dropped it down for MOT. When I walked home, I noticed this on the drive:

Could only have come from mine, its too clean to have been off the old tyres. I knew the inside of the wheels were dirty but still.

Should have gone to WIM :(

Those stick on weights are a PITA but still no excuse. Is this in Brackley by any chance? In which case I have a good idea which fitters you are talking about :-X :-X Should have no issues with them though :-\

Is this on the Desmond or on the chav anyway? ::)

It was in Brackley, but not ATS another place in town.

TheChav's factory spec wheels which were on a certain other car  ::) - Bolted to my 2.2 so it gets through the MOT.

Went for Nexen N6000 in the end, they will do me!

Might swap wheels back through until TheChav gets WIM'd, even if they stick weights back on, might get them re-done by people that know what they are doing.

went back, they apologised and fitted a replacement set of weights, cleaning the wheel first  ;)

It had come off the offside rear.

Can't really complain at that  :y

Always a good idea to take the wheels off and clean them before having new tyres fitted  :y

Or you could use a tyre fitter that doesn't use air tools, cleans the rim with solvent for the weight, scotchbrites the bead so that it seals properly and does the nuts up with a torque wrench. That they are the cheapest in the area is a bonus.

don't think they used air tools doing it up, had to take front wheel of this evening. Put a bar on it, expecting it to be at 1,0000,00000 Nm, wheel bolts came out nicely!  :o

Like the nexens so far, nice and quiet and smooth. Will wait till they are on the project before really pushing them :)

The place you used has served me well in the past. But still with Fast Fit mentality - they are they to make a buck, so speed is vital ;)

I can't really complain, showed them the weight, found said wheel with missing weight and they fitted new one.

Very helpful on the phone, they answered it (unlike that place near Tesco)

Good test of a place is when things go wrong, I would usually use WIM though
