Just read that, so if i buy compact disc digital audio discs and record my music on those it will be fine?

Only if such a format existed !!!

It doesn`t, its a playback only format as used by the audio manufacturers.

Genuine discs ONLY !!

 ;)
This format does exist as i had to buy them for a cd recorder i used to own. cd-r's didnt work you had to buy compact disc digital audio ones or it would not work.  :y

So if i use them i will be ok then :y

No.

They do not meet the Redbook physical format standard. Nothing recordable does.

You have a spare CDC2 - and I reckon the CDC2 is more robust. CDRs probably will kill it eventually, given time, but as you have a spare....

CDC3 (as fitted to facelifts) do fail regularly after seeing CDRs

just to explain in plain english (with a geek accent) for a moment.,   "proper" cd's are not "burned" using a laser to make spots in a dye layer inside the disc, , they are a physical pressing, a tiny bit like an old LP , only much finer....    as such,  a proper CD ,  has much better defined differentiation between bits of data than a burned CDR does, and are much easier to focus on,  producing less wear on the laser control mechanism.

essentially, playing a CDR is a bit like trying to play a high resolution picture of an LP....

the fact that it can be done at all is a bit of a miracle of technology.....  and the fact that it's much harder work should not really be as surprising as people think....

so yeah   CDR's knacker older laser assemblies.....    that were not designed with such tasks in mind.....

So I have been stuck with the same bloody discs in my CDC2 for 2 years and all I needed to do was pull the head unit for an hour........... AAArrgghhhh! ;D

Sure I have asked the question of how to eject the bugger before but maybe this is recent wisdom. :y

Not necessarily - if the CDC2 fails, then there will be an error code stored in the head unit that the changer has failed - plugging in another changer will not reset this retained error message, that can only be reset by pulling the head unit and refitting AFTER a good changer has been plugged in first
