Hey guys,
just wanted to make sure that the outcome of my post wasnt missed by anywhone,
basically, bought the car with abs light on,speedo not working,
removed and cleaned the rear diff sensors, electrical check on all wheel sensors to make sure they were at least electrically sound, also the sensor rings were in good condition,
changed the abs ecu for a secondhand unit,as advised by members on the forum,
long story short,THE FUSE HAD BLOWN.....
the guy in the garage did say though the original unit was prob ferked hence fuse blowing,
many thanks to twiglet for his time and effort in posting  thepart pronto, top man.
the moral of the story if there is one to be had, i have been working on cars for 30 years now,in my haste to get the abs light out in readyness for the m.o.t i missed the very very basic thing,IF ITS AN ELECTRICAL FAULT STAGE ONE CHECK THE FUSE,
i know some people may think what a t...t he is but if my post helps somewhone with a similar problem its ok with me

Hehe, well done.

Had similar a while back on a mate's Polo.  Highly trusted (by him) local independent told him three different fault codes pertained; pump-related, ECU-related and sensor/wiring related.  New ABS ECU reqd. ~£600 fitted, they quoth.  :o

Smelt of misdiagnosis to me. He brought it round.

Twas the fuse.  He was sooooooooo grateful.

"You've just saved me hundreds of pounds Pete!"

Similar tale from Ford, when i had my Scorpio, ABS light on ,tested and told controler and pump both had it, give us £1000 and we will fix, 310 scrappy new controller, lasted til car died.
