Multicar insurance
« on: 23 October 2011, 22:28:10 »

I want to insure a second car alongside my trusty 2.2dti.  I have a full no-claim bonus which is used on the Omega and makes my premium just under £300.   I want to insure a little MX-5 and thought that on a multi-car policy I would be able to put the two cars on one policy and apply my no-claim bonus to both cars - especially as I will be driving one or the other, not both at the same time.   All the online sites want me to insure one of the cars with full ncb and the other with no ncb making the 2nd car's insurance too expensive.   Any oofers have any suggestions on how to insure the second car cheaply?

You'll need to chat to some brokers I expect ;) ;)

There are a couple of companies that will mirror it.

Admiral are worth a try

The NCD you earn on a car policy, only applies to that car's policy, subsequent policies earn their own NCD. Some companies will give discount for a second policy with them as a new customer Admiral were OK for me the first year I insured 3 cars with them but then became too expensive the year after that.

Seems they all do that just to get the business and then hope you dont compair the market for a couple of years

I am in my second year with Admiral Multicar, mostly to help Master Vamps, both years were more expensive for swmbo and myself ::) ::) Next year Master Vamps will be on his own and we can go back to comparing each time..Makes a heck of a difference ime..... :y

Tried Admiral and they worked out dearer than insuring both cars with Churchill.   Even when they say they will give a 10 or 15% discount they want over £800 for two cars - considering I am the wrong side of 55 and got my Omega covered for less than £300 I think nearly £600 to insure a 1.6 Mazda that will only do around 3000 miles a year is excessive.   I can only drive one car at a time so the Omega would be parked up when I drive the Mazda and vice versa.

When you insure two cars with these companies, does the premium start for both cars at the same time.
I have two cars with different companies, and they are both taxed and insured/mot spread over the year.
Could not afford a big premiun in one hit :(

The first year you insure one car as normal, and as each car comes up for renewal you pay a percentage of the premium for the amount of year to take it till the first car's insurance runs out. Subsequent years you'd insure all cars at the same time - & that's another draw back, I had £800+ to shell out the other week (no longer with Admiral though)

Done that this year, mainly for Master Vamps, next year it will be each to their own, particularly if I get an additional car.. :D :D :D

Seperate policy and NCD for each car, my plan was to run the omega on the more exspensive of the 2 policies and eventually run someting like a corvette or trans am on the cheaper policy and only tax it to run in the summer months, but getting older and wiser (plus more decrpid) I am now looking into the 2nd car being an audi 4x4

i wanted to run an astra 1400 cc along side my 2.2 omega...lots did not want to know...others were too expensive...so i ended up putting it through  churchill where my omega is insured.....no claims do not count  although they did give me 10% to start ..however it still cost me £300   extra....my mig was only £250..so works out quite expensive.... :'(
