NCDC open cart surgery update....
« on: 02 November 2011, 16:33:41 »

well i dismantled the NCDC unit,   unjammed the cart,  fixed the ejection issue,  but discovered that some violent numpty neanderthal has been there before me, there's at least one broken pillar from something.....  can't see what....  not familiar enough with the insides of these to know where from,  tried to spot a snapped off pillar base , but failed,   (it fell out when i shook the unit to recover a worm gear cog, and a spring....    )

it's also missing a spring from the internal cage suspension (top left spring)

and the mess they've made of the removal tags is horrible,  no wonder they broke the facia  mountings ...

so while it now ejects the cart beautifully , it fails to read the CDs ,   sticking at "checking disk 4"

either because the transport is buggered, or the cart is buggered, or the laser is buggered.....

going to need an intact CDC3 (right unit?) to inspect and compare to see if i can resurrect this one.....  i'm pretty handy at electronics and instrumentation repairs....     (B.eng Electronics,  B.Sc Physics,  and nearly 30 years of building and fixing high tech professional audio equipment, and delicate musical instruments)

may well buy a complete replacement NCDC , just in case......    scrappers take note....

CDC3 is the correct unit, just swap it over completely, but retain your vertical board, top cover (as it has the hole for the ribbon) and back cover (no hole for connector).

thanks Jaime,  so i take it that any of the CDC3 units on bay of flea, and the like will do if i cannibalise them as outlined....    swap the vertical board and 2 of the case components ....
?

(thanks also for that link by PM...    couldn't find it for love nor money.... )

I've had a look at the facia , as well , and can see how application of some drilled out solder tags and some araldite would resolve the issue

just need to find some in my parts bins and i'll do it when i've got the cdc3 to swap out.
