I had had a T5 version before the Desmond.

There was plenty of poke when you wanted it - although not as roomy on the inside as you would imagine.  I found the 5 speed manual box woeful and, to tell you the truth, it eventually put me off the car.

Parts and servicing required a strong stomach but if you're man enough to do a bit of self-fiddling, the compact dimensions of the car can make this challenging.

Silly design features like the switch for the interior lights being a micro switch that lived in the door lock mechanism requiring a lot of bollocking about to fix was another thing that tested my patience and wallet.

My wife loved that car and if truth be told it is an ideal for a woman.

Comfortable and a nice sound from the 5 pot couldn’t make up for the robust running costs sadly.

depends which XC70 your talking about?
the P1? the P2/P2.5? or the latest P3 xc70?

the P2's or P2.5 (2001 to 2008/09) are about the best

P3's have some electrical gremlins from what i've read, not the best due to getting sold to ying-yang-gheeli or however you spell it...also they're goin to the wank 4 pot only engine range on the latest P3's

the eu4 D5 is a very good engine although not the smoothest- i like the gruff sound as i love the 5pots being a bit different n all that

i've had 1 P2 and 2 P2.5's ... the P2.5's look alot better but are from 4K to 7K roughly plus about 1k for v70/xc70 at a guess (i paid £6500 for a top of the range S60 D5 185 about a year ago now which was before the P3 came out from memory... fsh, almost every option available and had 120k when i got rid of it and it never missed a beat and never needed anything other than front tyres which shouldnt be as bad on the AWD's)

only gripe is the steering lock/turning circle...it was interesting, sometimes testing, makes you look like you cant drive lol but i found it amusing if anything, just dont go all the way round mini roundabouts as its a 3 point turn!
