I think My lap top is shot
« on: 15 December 2011, 22:47:33 »

As above really, it is showing signs of physically breaking but last couple of nights all is well and suddenly goes off, everything. Initially I thought it was a power issue, all checked out OK so now thinking it is overheating....as it goes off, no lights showing even when plugged in and charging, leave it for a while and the power light comes on and then I can switch it on, 5 years old, Acer Aspire 5630, thoughts please.... :)

try cleaning out the fan  ;) gets blocked up with fluff overtime which will cause it to overheat and switch off  :y

Got similar issues with my Aspire 5551. After a long session of usage the screen goes black and there is a loud buzzing noise.Switch it off, restart it and alls well until next time. :(
Have blown an aerosol of compressed air through the vents, which seems to have helped a bit,but not cured it.

to get the fluff out you do need to strip it down, comp air wont shift it, you will be amazed how compact it gets.

download speedfan and monitor the temperature, if you can't get/not willing to open the fan unit stick a hoover over the fan unit area and look at getting a laptop cooler (normally £5-£10)
