99 OMEGA interior plastic trim
« on: 03 January 2012, 06:43:25 »

Hi Guys
I have a facelift CD in New zealand, kind of rare as holden commodore being its cousin rules over here (with a 6 ltr V8) this is my third Omega and as much as I love this one hell it can be a pain in the ass! its only done 86km and seems to have done most of the usual omega things but there area a couple of new issues I wouldnt mind some clarification on these issues  wheel alignment, fuel comsumption O2, plastics including trim and buttons!

- with all my interior plastic trim bits like the radio surround and all the switches, the grey "covering" is soft as hell, if you scratch it it goes back to the base plastic. Am i right to assume that the trim on our cars is just poainted and that over the years with beinbg coated in armour all etc that it has ruined the finish?  has this happened to anybody else?? Can just the buttons IE climate control and window switches be replaced or is it a case of just get over it?!

- on the subject of plastics i have noticed i switches and various other bits seem to be breaking regualy, im guessing this is just noirmal!?

- i just had a wheel alignment done as per course after fitting a couple of new tires. The rear end was wearing on the inner edge so had them replaced and the cambers etc done, however after only a few weeks/km the fronts started to do the same, when i say started they wore out in less than 500 km! I had her put back on the machine and the cambers were "nortmal" around 1'50 however after a bit of stabbing around looking for a cause the front control arm bushes seemed soft, not worn. as in with a tire iron shoved in we were able to easily compress the main bushes, are they normally this soft?

- im looking to drop the cats are there any issues? for a while my car MPG dropped to around 7.1 km/pl off the computer so i was looking at replacing the o2's but in the last week im back up to 9.3/10!? im guessing the dead or one of the dead o2's has suddnley come back to life, has this happened before!?  or should i be looking somewhere else??

Cheers people, look forward to your help,  Boycey

Facelift soft touch rubber coating on switches etc. is notoriouis for being unable to withstand much wear & tear. Replacement from a car being broken is the usual remedy, but may not be an option where you are. :-\
