As RobG says, only need glovebox out to change speed controller.  Bit fiddly.

Probably not helpful but..

My recollection is that the top flange of the glove box is clamped behind the lower edge of the air bag module. 3 torx screws hold the lower edge of the air bag module.

I have always taken the 3 torx screws out and gently prised the lower edge of the air bag up to allow the glove box to come out.

If you already have the glove box out then I presume *someone* must have cut the top edge off the glovebox to allow it to come out..............

PS - sparks from a grinder are astonishingly effective at burning little pits in (or welding themselves to) the inside of your windscreen.

Thanks Andy,Ive managed to get the glovebox off and the airbag cover as per
Jimbob's "howto"
The top edge of the air bag cover is secured by a 8"long thin bolt which acts as a hinge pin
I've checked the motor as you advised Kevin and it's OK :y
Thanks
So full speed ahead with a replacement speed controller

Thanks Rob have one on it's way :y
Just been out to Miggy for a reappraisal
Going to follow your advice and fit the speed controller with airbag in-situ
Allthough got some strong reservations/worries about previous work done with regard to the 4 No 30 airbag torx screws
What I need to know is:-
As the screws are special
They have a flanged head that forms a fixed washer with the underside of the flange toothed to bite in to the airbag metal brackets
Question is:-
Is the airbag system electronicaly sensitive to the torque setting of the 4 torx screws??
Has someone stripped the splines off 2 screws and damaged the 2 others because of system Fault Codes?
As I have released 2 screws could be I could have fault codes on power up

I don't believe so.

If its the ones (or identical to) the 3 that you undo to remove glovebox, I should have some here if you want to change them. If you want them, PM your address and I'll pop in post, but can't do for a few days due to manflu  :-[

Just been searching the Forum to find out how the speed controller is fixed in
Could'nt find anything but found some pics of the S/C
Visuals of it located in the car appears as if it could be latched into it's housing
It would be nice to remove it tomorrow ready for Monday
So I'll have a go and fiddle around
Any advice/tips much appreciated :y

Get yourself upside down in the passenger footwell with a torch. Its just held on by two plastic clips, one attached to either side.
Similar to most electrical connectors - you press the bottom of them in towards the side of the controller to allow them to open out at the top, and then pull it out.
