I've been in Sussex for a few days seiing family. Dad's nearly 82 & not doing to well but he's still up, about & ruling the roost since mum left us last year

. My lovely kid sister Sarah who is also a vet was there with my two little neices Amelia & Ruby who are gorgeous. Also there was my son Scott. Last visit he told me of a burger joint he & his doorman mates in Brighton use. The owner Nicks son works doors with them & the place has a chilli burger challenge...if you can finish it you get your money back. I happily eat a Vindaloo or a phal with fresh green finger chillies & enjoy it....what i cook at OOF meets just has the token sprinkle of chilli powder so all can enjoy the flavours. Anyway i laughed it off, said it could'nt be that bad, done it all before etc. Scott said he'd put a cocktail stick in the sauce (it's actually more like a brown paste)& said that he felt ill. He can eat a normal vindaloo easily. The upshot is us being blokes i said next time i'm down i'll take the challenge. This saturday we met up, parked the cars & walked the rest of the way. When we got there the place was full of the locals & Scott's mates who he'd told about it, no pressure then! I can't back down so signed the disclaimer & went outside for a smoke. When the food was ready he told me about 1200 people had tried & 46 had succeeded. ( the link below says 700 but a few years ago) Upshot is i did it, no 47!!!! Word got round & folk came to watch, but....really don't try it. I felt terrible. not just a burning gob but cramps, could'nt see or walk properly, sat outside in the cool breeze on the pavement for at least half an hour while folk were trying to high 5 me (which is gay). I would'nt do it again for any money. I took the mouth heat but it's 20 mins later you feel ill all over. I was in a proper 2 & 8 for a while & i did it sober!!!!
