US is useless at foreign policy, most of the politicians, could not tell you on which continent a country is situated, let along come up with any pragmatic solutions to a countries / regions problems. Look at the blunders, presidential candidates have made when asked to comment on something like Libya.
This is a great pity and a massive short coming for the world's policemen who can project awesome military power anywhere in the world.
