Problems various
« on: 20 February 2012, 16:37:07 »

Right have done some work on the new car, HBV, cleaned plenum, changed thermostat & new header tank & guess what it's playing up FFS, hunts, keeps telling me coolant level (even though header tank is at the mark), came up with Automatic gearbox on the MID wont shift by it's self seems to start in top, no snow mode, no rev counter on tick over & sluggish, I'm now really fed up with the car comes up with fault codes

17   Knock Signal Circuit 2 (has worn through the sleeve) :y
31   No Engine RPM Signal
33   Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Voltage Low
73   Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage Low
129   Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Feedback Voltage Low
135   Telltale (Checklight) Voltage Low (normal I take it)
Any ideas before I take a hammer to it  >:(

Is EGR plugged in?  Is EGR seized open, causing the hunting? Might be worth sticking blanking plate on EGR.

Probably worth clearing all those codes, and seeing what comes back.  Gearbox is a bit worrying though - is fluid level OK?

OK swapped over the plenum with the EGR attached & so far most things seem to be better, still sluggish  & idle is still a bit erratic but the gearbox seems to be ok snow & sport mode works changes smooth enough plus no gearbox fault on MID  :y

Have you checked that all plug leads are secure on spark plugs and you have  not disturbed them  at dispack end whilst working on HBV.

Hi Ken,

The 135 can be caused by the instrument panel wiring being got at to make it look as if the EML light is working ok.

Take a look at this and you will see what I mean  :( :

I hope this isnt the case for you, but if it is then I will happily let you have a replacement PCB or even complete cluster if any bodge is "terminal".

Fingers crossed - Rob

have a good check for vacuum leaks  :y  then double check all electrical connections.
your symptoms are suggesting you have a leak somewhere

if you can clear codes then try again

Well funny you should say that as when I was going over everything just to double check that I hadn't missed anything loose or unplugged I did notice that the valve in the servo pipe one of the connectors has a small crack in it, so have ordered one from Vx but I really didn't think it would make this amount of agro  :o

just to see if it is that can check it by blocking the crack up with a bit of blue tack see if it makes it better, then if it dont you know there is somthing els.
