Gearbox on way out
« on: 15 February 2012, 18:56:18 »

My V6 CDX has had a grumble in the gearbox for some time. The symtoms are that after the box is well heated up, when coming to a standstill, it feels like the engine is pushing it and you have to apply more brake to stop. It does go to normal after a second or so when you've come to a stop. Also, when pulling off, it sometimes seems like the engine has died - a sort of misfire but it picks up again in a second or so and is alright in normal driving. It just feels like its bogged down for a second. The box was incorrectly filled by a "mechanic" and was low of fluid. This has been rectified and although better, every now and then still displays these symtoms.

I intend to drive through France this summer and I don't want to be stuck on a French Autoroute. My question is, do gearboxes suddenly stop working or is it a gradual thing. As the gearbox is at the moment, I feel it would be OK. But if it's going to suddenly go pop, I'll have to get something done before I go.
