EGR Valve
« on: 20 February 2012, 09:35:34 »

Hi folks.

I got the car a few weeks ago and all was well until the weekend there and the ECU light came on.  Went to the mate's to get it plugged on (he has a brand new Snap-On Comp) and it showed up P400 Code, which is the EGR.  So I took into it yesterday, stripped it all down, including splitting the intake and cleaned it all out with carb cleaner and got rid of the junk, which wasn't too bad actually and rebuilt everything back together again.  Now, all seemed well and I got the fault cleared again and I drove the car last night again and as soon as it sits at idle for about 10secs, the lights coming on again.  As soon as I accelerate after a few seconds, the light goes out again and the car drives fine.  So I got it back to the garage and checked all the vacuum hoses and none are split and seem fine, but I haven't had a chance to get it onto the machine yet to find out if it's showing the same code again unfortunately.

So basically what I am asking is, if it is the same code, should I just order a new EGR as my own is fubarred and am I better fitting a genuine VX one, or would the 'Fuel Parts' version be ok?

Any help is appreciated folks, thanks.

Save yourself the grief and cost of a new EGR as they are not cheap especially from VX,....just blank it off with a peice of "coke can " or a purpose made metal plate.Plenty of advise on how to if you do a google search or similar

Just unbolt the EGR from the manifold with the 2 large hex headed bolts.Fit blanking plate across opening and then refit EGR back so in effect you have just blanked it off.Its only there for car to comply with USA emmissions so will give no adverse effect to car, well it may may it run a bit better.

Can anyone tell me how to do this and what it entails?  Surely the EGR still has to operate in some sort of fashion, or the light will remain on in the dash.

Thanks in advance

Blank it off as amba post above - make sure it's still connected electrically - no lights on on dash :y
