Brake wear light on
« on: 27 February 2012, 23:04:29 »

Looking at last renewal it will probably be fronts but the light coming on reminded me of another thing VW mentioned to me last week about a certain "other repair centre" - better not refer to it by name too much.

They have had a few brake jobs where pads are down to metal - the senor wires had just been cut through when pads renewed at the non VW garage.

I had a case also with 'said repair outfit' who changed discs and pads on an Astra Coupe.

The problem was thew brakes had a major imbalance as a result (very rear orientated).

They had fitted the wrong sized discs and pads and also used a grinder to remove a section of the caliper so they could still fit the wear sensor!

You just couldn't make it up!

I took our old 4x4 in to **** *** one Sunday (only place open) after clipping a pump island and damaging the tyre valve which resulted in a very slow puncture. I drove the car in, watched the spanner monkey jack it up, and then use an airgun to spin 5 wheelnuts off.

I then spent a further 3 minutes watching him kick, slap, and generally beat the wheel from side to side in an attempt to remove it before pointing out it had 6 wheelnuts holding it on  ::)
