Thirsty Zetec....
« on: 29 February 2012, 19:45:53 »

Since my Omega died at christmas, I have been running around in an old 1995 Mondeo 1.8 manual...  The car itself does its job, getting me to and from work, but, I get dreadful fuel economy (28mpg) mostly A1 miles...

All of my journeys are 12 miles or more so the car does have time to adequately warm up...  I have not noticed any fuel smells and it was MOT'd last month and nothng was mentioned about the emissions...   The engine runs reasonably well, idling quite high at around 1000rpm (which does strike me a little excessive)...

Any ideas???

different probabilities.. air leak and old lambda sensors are at top of the list which may cause higher fuel consumption..

dirty throttle etc..
