2.2dti steering box

hi could anyone advise me on replacing my steering box, ive got loads of free play, ive 90% sure its the steering box. Im geting clonking noises when turning left.

Double check the Steering Idler for play before condemning the 'Box, they're a damn site cheaper :y

Agreed, steering boxes don't normally fail. Pig of a job, and not cheap to source, so I would explore every other option first.

ive replaced steering idler for from new, new inner, outer track rod ends and front arms and centre rod all in last 8 months. ive found a steering box on ebay all for £40. the handling of the car is really bad, thinking about selling it.

Got that T shirt the hard way :'(  Besides, I'd have thought that a knackered Steering Box would by quite noisy :-\

When did the clonking start? Was it after any work done? Or was the work done to try and fix the clonk?

And add your rough location to your profile if you can, somebody near may be able have a look?
