Just checked my old paperwork ........... 3 is indead used for the old bell.
Just use 2 and 5 and use (as mentioned on here) twisted pairs if possible  :y

Yes and when I had FTTC installed the tosser didn't bother connecting 3 back up so my original dial type phone with a proper BELL didn't work!
I can probably remember (just) how to restrap that so it would ring ;D

Trouble is, the pulse dialling would tinkle the other phones with 3 not connected.

Not if they had a thermistor fitted.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I gave with it in the end and got a PCI wireless card!  ;) ;D ;D ;D
