Windscreen Repair Kits
« on: 07 March 2012, 14:47:55 »

I have got a stone chip on my windscreen on which it will fail the MOT, which is due next week. My insurance has a £25 excess for chip repairs and is also due for renewal next week and as the company I'm currently with have quoted £251 for my renewal, this being about £100 less than I can find anywhere else, I'm reluctant to risk a premium rise due to a claim.

Has anybody on here had any experience of using any of the kits like this?

A colleague of mine saw a windscreen fitter in the car park a couple of months back and asked if he'd repair a crack. £10 cash in hand job done. :y

You need a vacuum pump to do a proper job.

It does remind me.. I have one that needs doing too. ::)

Most insurance companies that I know of don`t class a windscreen repair or replacement as a claim so it shouldn`t impact on any premium

If you remember, replacement screens were free too, then it was a £25 excess, then £40, now it's £75/£80 Just insurance companies cashing in.  >:(

Years ago, I was asked if I'd made a claim that year, I said no. He asked me if I was sure  ???. He said that I had because I'd had a replacement screen ........... didn't make a difference to the quote though.

When I switched to Admiral from Adrian Flux recently one of the questions I was asked specifically was "Have you had any claims in the last five years including windscreen claims?"

No idea if it would have changed the premium (though the cynic in me is sure it would have) because I haven't .. touch wood!

Info came to light a while back on the number of claims on my insurance record. I have a few years protected no claims, but within that period there where a couple of claims recorded. Windscreens.
