HID problem.
« on: 11 March 2012, 17:58:31 »

When i bought my estate over five years ago, the headlamps were orangy yellow. They would give the big flash on turn on and then go through the normal dim to bright sequence but then dim off to orange one side and yellow the other. I changed the lamps to a set of 8.5k colour and since then, and espesially in the cold, one side but sometimes both, will not strike up so to speak. They will eventually with turning on and of rapidly.  Ballast prob or not good quality lamps?? I may take a week to answer any questions due to work commitments.  Thanks in advance,  keith B

Initial reaction, if they were not good quality branded ones, is to suspect the bulbs.

8.5k is probably a bit high for good illumination.

Definitely bulbs.
Have one oem and one replacement bulb on mine.
OEM starts immediatelly, replacement needs some time to heat up and never strts the first time

The 8.5k gives a cracking light level for my eyes ( who said that, where are you??!!) I seem to remember it cost £25 for the pair as we had a deal with the supplier over at ABS and they were having a sale. It always seems to be the O/S one and that is a younger unit complete but now and again and mainly when it is very cold neither will light up.  Keith B
