it could be just the oil pressure switch on its way out and might even be the cause of the oil leak,i had 1 do this a long time ago

My concern would be the fact its been used for 2000 miles with a flickering oil warning light

Guessing you must have seen the advert then. If it was just at idle there's a fair chance it will be ok $:-\$

Had a Saab diesel a few weeks ago with the oil light flickering at idle and oil pressure switch leaking,new switch cured it
