Poor starting from cold
« on: 21 March 2012, 20:52:16 »

For a while now my car has been reluctant to start from cold. It does start, but it chugs about and stutters a bit for a few seconds before jumping into life. I've had the car for seven years and it has always started instantly in the past (except when the crank sensor failed). Once started, the engine runs smoothly with no misfiring and it re-starts from warm as it should.

Could this be an indicator that my crank sensor is on the way out again? Any other suggestions.

The last big maintenance I did was to replace the dis-pack with a second-hand unit.

Where are you in Northants?

My money is on crank sensor - get codes read to confirm.

If you update your forum profile with car/location details it helps quite a bit on diagnosis as well as availability of hands on help if required.   :y :y

I am near Towcester.

I replaced the crank sensor but the poor cold start problem and general gutlessness persists.

I'm only in Brackley if you need codes read/reset :y

What is it like if you floor the throttle, trying starting (it shouldn't) for 2 or 3s, then try starting normally?
