My son...
« on: 03 April 2012, 20:58:49 »

...aged 7 is asking me to download a song from iTunes. I have bought a few for his sister (11), so I don't want to deprive him of a 0.99p song, BUT

He wants a "song", and I use the term loosely, entitled "Earthquake" by someone known as Labrinth. I searched for it on iTunes and found it labelled "Explicit".

The lyrics are here:

http://www.directlyrics.com/labrinth-earthquake-lyrics.html

Methinks he won't get THAT version.  >:(

Possible, just possibly, the edited radio one (but it's still a grotty noise with questionable lyrics which, to me, suggest rioting).

Whatever happened to good pop music?  ::) ::) ::)

My Dad used to say that...... :D :D That said I fully agree with you, I have had, at times to speak with my older step sons to be aware of what songs may be played in earshot of Miss Vamps, aged 11. some of it is garbage imho.... ::) ::)

When I was nine years old (1969) I was heavily into "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies. What a great a band they were. ::) ::) ::) ;)

Ah, get it - the clean version of course  :)

It's a big tune, whether you like it or not, I happen to like it actually, and Labrinth is the 'Star of the moment' for kids right now, he seems like an OK fella, despite the lyrics. I don't think your son, at 7, will be too hung up on the lyrics anyway.

I clicked to read the lyrics. I stopped on the first line where it said rap or rapper. To say I despise rap with a vengeance is an understatement, I will leave it there  >:(

I agree. Rap is just annoying noise......and nothing else. It is certainly not music.

It would seem that rap "songs" are obliged to contain f-this and f-that in the lyrics. Oh, that and going about "bitchez".  ::)

One of the great oxymorons of our time is "street culture"  ::) ::)
