bose subwoofer
« on: 25 January 2012, 16:23:22 »

Hi guys. I am thinking of removing my bose system and replacing it with an after market setup. I dont want to put a massive box with a sub in the boot and was thinking for Just replacing the 2 bose subs. Does anyone know the size of them? I have seen some 6.5 inch ones. Would these fit or would i have to make the holes bigger.  :y Cheers

The new subs you have seen, would need to be 2ohms to start of with! Also if more powerful than original subs (which i assume they are) then that makes your bose amp useless, as it would be underpowering them!! :y

Unsure of the exact size of the BOSE subs on the shelf, as they always reach the bin before I can measure them, but they are probably around that sort of size.

However, if your replacements do not drop down into the holes, consider offering them up from underneath the shelf instead, as the hole already cut is around the same size, and as long as the rubber edge of the speaker does not hit the metal of the shelf you should be ok.

so are you going to remove it all back to a standard 4ohm system eventually removing all the bose system?? or replace just the rear 2ohm bose subs??

i was going to fit a full bose setup but found out i calnt fit an extra 2amps to run my twin 12" sonys so im just going to fit all sony setup now, headunit fronts rears 2amps & subs all sony setup as my standard setup has now nearly died due to my standard headunit packing up & the tempory HU then blowing the speakers due to higher output & i didnt even have them on loud..!! even at volume 10 out of 50 they started to distort badly but typical sony headunits start up volume is 15! instantly knackering them! ohwell going to fit new door cards today & replace speakers to start with....

I am going to completely remove the bose setup at some point and use the wiring thats in the car to run the door speakers from an amp and have another amp to run the 2 subs in the parcel shelf. I have a kenwood headunit to go in which is quite old now and i want to get focal component speakers for the doors. Should be able to use all existing wiring to get signal from headunit to the amps and from amps back to speakers in the doors. Just need to run new power cables for amps. Its going to be a nice little project when i have bought everything. :y

I`m very much a fan of Focal speakers, and look forward to seeing how you get on - Just a quick tip, from experience, Focal speakers seem to perform exceptionally well with Audison Amps

Depending what Amp(s) you end up using, assuming the amps are going in the rear, your probably end up running some screened preamp cable aswell, as the Bose uses balanced cables at low speaker level between HU and Amp.

On the Subs, subject to room under the parcel shelf, you could fit bigger speakers than the Bose holes allow, in my company car days where we weren't allowed to make holes bigger, I quiet sucessfully fitted Base Speakers under the shelf by making chipboard baffles and spacers under the shelf, ie 10" speakers with a 6" shelf hole with very good results, as long as the Air Flow is tight between baffle and shelf and the Speaker movement area is free.

 ;)

Edit: Just read, Daves already mentioned earlier about offering the speakers from underneath, :y

Well i am hoping i dont have to do any mods to fit those 6.5 inch subs. from reading the listing for them they seem to be a really good sub and should serve me well in the install i want to do.  :y as for the preamps cables that is something i have been thinking about and its probably best if i run new cables anyway.  ;D

How did you get on with these? I'm looking at changing the speakers in the car soon but with already having the gas tank in the boot and always carrying tool boxes etc for work I can't afford to lose any more space.
