Sorry, no idea. From what I've read on here the usual suspect appears to be the microswitch(es) on the side of the central locking motor. Someone on here said he had a couple of worn wires inside the rubber hose that takes all the door electrics through the A-post. That might be causing a dodgy earth connection and mixing things up a bit. It's a bit tight in there and frankly it was easier getting the locking motor out. Only other thing I can think of is the central locking control unit. On mine it appears to be integrated with the alarm (Delphi Megamos) and is hidden behind the drivers side kick panel. I've had mine out and in pieces and it is all coated in plastic inside to prevent moisture so I cannot see an easy way to test it. Have you tried the key reprogramming lately? If you open the car, turn the key in the ignition (don't start) and hold down the open or close button the central locking should close and then open (or maybe it is the other way around.) Given your key is "talking" to the car if this doesn't work then I'd guess it is starting to fail.

I'm kind of out of my depth here though. Spent 2 days trying to fix mine and fixed diddly-squat so far! Still, that's Easter. Central locking dies. Maybe it'll rise again in a few days ...

Thanks for your thoughts will try the key in the ignition not one for dealing in electrics so not about to go stripping things down, more likely then to blow the bloody doors of.  :y :y

Of course, if you wait a few weeks the other shoe will probably drop and then you'll find out what is acting up because it will have failed completely. Probably easier than chasing shadows.

Failing that, if there isn't an OOF member near Bristol that can help you fix it then I can recommend a decent mechanic near Bristol. Not sure which garage he works for these days (small family business somewhere near Clevedon, I think) but I can dig his mobile out for you. He used to have an absolutely mint Carlton GSI until he came out of work one day to discover some bar-steward had parked a truck on top of it and then buggered off. Criminal.

I wouldn`t rule out the motor until you have checked it with a good one in there - they are known for dead spots, and I have been caught out myself many times. We no longer test motors with a meter and voltage, we now only test them by substitution.

 ???

Mr Wood was kind enough to lend me a working motor. Still nothing. On pressing unlock if I listen I can hear what sounds like relays or microswitches from behind the dash - nothing from the door itself. Guess it might be the indicator circuit powering up but the indicators are no longer flashing (work fine otherwise). The boot lock still  opens on the button so that part works. Swapped all equivalent fuses around in the fusebox and everything else still seems to work. Disconnected battery. No change! Another frustrating evening ends!

It certainly smells of something going to earth somewhere and no signal reaching the drivers door but damned if I know where to look!

Looks like a new car still. Absolutely mint. Absolute bugger to see the A-post end though. Worth a try!

Cheers,
