Now remind me how much it costs to buy and run a  Type 45 destroyer or one of our new aircraft carriers or run a couple of dozen harriers or ................... you get my drift 

Now what would the default interest on that lot add upto as of April 2012 ?

Maybe India can let us borrow our old ones back seen we supply them with millions of pounds in aid a year 
We could fly all those harriers we have in storage off them

The defense review was a complete disaster, which is what you expect when armchair generals politicians are in charge of choosing the options. 

Defense procurement is a disaster, which has got much worse since privatized the MOD Procurement executive as Quintiq. Now no internal expertise to decide what is good / bad and value for money except the pen pushing bean counters. 

Defence spending has been cut where CaMoron with other fellow socialists decide it is better to mimic NuLabour by priortising bank rolling despots and dictators over defense spending with overseas aid. Overseas aid has been described as massive transfer of wealth. A tax on the poor in the UK to keep overseas billionaire despots and dictators at the standard of living they are used to. 

The problem is we do not have the resources to defend our global trading interests with so few ships. Once we have the aircraft carriers they will be very vulnerable where we have too few destroyers and frigates to provide the sort of escorts the US do with their carriers. 

Don't understand why we didn't just buy two next-gen carriers off the US, would have been much cheaper. With offset work for the series done in the UK as part of the deal, like we are with F35 aircraft. 

Running defense down is very dangerous as procurement times are slow against normally needing a defense capability very fast. 

With a mad women running land stealer land Argentina, once they have finished Magabe style asset grabbing  nationalizing all overseas companies and are in an even worse position financially than they are now, where the nationalized companies are no longer functional, the Falkland Islands and their resources will look very attractive.
