Gearbox going into limp mode
« on: 23 April 2012, 12:59:49 »

2.2 petrol Y reg. the auto box has a tendency go into limp mode on start up. It does not do this every time, it can go 10 or so start ups before doing so. When it does go into limp mode the engine turns over lazily. I have just fitted a new cam sensor. anyone have any ideas as to what the problem may be.

Dare I ask was the sensor genuine from a VX dealership?

Also have the codes been read?

Well we need the codes really but you say the starters lazy when the box plays up I'm just wondering if the battery has a dodgy cell and is causing the voltage to drop when cranking that the gearbox ecu has a bit of a fred. Could also be a earthing issue I guess. Wouldn't hurt to check all the connections

Where did you get the replacement sensor?

Was it doing it before you fitted the new one, has it made it better/worse?

Also check Alternator voltage, Ive had a 2.0 autobox doing limp mode because charge voltage was intermittently going to 16v.

The replacement sensor was from Quinton Hazell. I'm sure it was manufactured by Siemens. It was doing it before the new sensor was fitted, had it checked by a Vaux dealer who said it needed a new sensor, which is why I fitted one. It is not doing as badly as it was. I've only recently fitted a new battery and it was doing it before the new battery was fitted. The Vaux dealer said it needed a new no. 2 oxygen lambda sensor which I'm awaiting delivery. I can't see that the lambda sensor could be affecting it.
