Virgin Trains - very impressed
« on: 24 April 2012, 23:22:34 »

Had to go to Manchester again today on family business- decided on train as had to go into my office in London first.

2hrs 5 mins from Euston to Piccadilly - spot on time - sushi served and reasonable red wine, nice trains, bags of room in 1st class for which I got a return for £85 - same service and on time coming back as well, free wifi

Virgin are due a lot of credit for turning around the service.

The west coast trains are excellent, smooth & fast. Their now defunct Cross Country service was terrible, not helped by those shite Voyager rolling stock!

agree with everything above.  the west coast service is good as i use it daily.  however the word of warning is to avoid the open ticket/walk up fares.  Can easily be £150 plus from london to birmingham and more further north.

I don't see that sort of price with cross country possibly because they know with such awful trains they cannot charge it

Went to Manchester recenty on Virgin First Class (booked a few days before so was only about a fiver more than 2nd class) very impressed, enjoyed the free food and drinks and wifi.

Get to Euston early their First Class lounge, again free, is worth a visit.
