timing belt....
« on: 02 May 2012, 16:32:29 »

Just setting about changing my timing belt, pump and aux belt, being slightly held up as got sent wrong locking kit but waiting on right one.. have everything stripped of the engine waiting to lock it up but I noticed that the belt is slack where it runs round the second pulley on the tensioner? Just where it is between the two sets of cam (hope that makes sense) but tight everywhere else.. is that normal? Car is running ok?

Sounds like you may have timed (pun intended!) the change about right and have had a lucky escape! ;)

Your belt should be still all nice and taught, with the tensioner lines lining up, which lets you know the tensioner was set correctly too :y

There will be a certain strokes of the engine whereby if in a certain position, the far right run of the belt will appear to be a little slack

When all set up properly, with the crank at TDC though, it should be as DLK describes.
