How do you get an LPG car throught the tunnel
[/quote]

When using the tunnel we remove the tank, also the extra luggage room is required.

I thought about removing the filler and the sticker but running low tank, there is NO safety reason AFAIK

i did South of France last year in the Omega, 1100 miles at about 27mpg,  4 up with a shed load of luggage, we were not sitting around.

24 hours point to point, i was dead when i got there, am doing it again this july

£150 is a little optimistic in petrol, we did £700 in the whole week, there and back, close to 3000 miles

Definitely drive... Ryanair couldn't PAY me enough to fly with them after a previous experience!  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

A few years ago the wife and I went camping right down in Narbonne, which is virtually on the Spanish border. Admittedly I had a Diseasel Vectra then, but, left off from Dunkerque at 0700 ish and were sat on capsite, all set up with beer in hand, by a little after 1730 without going excessively fast... Just sat at 130kph (just under 80mph) all the way!

If you're going to drive then look at Norfolk Line's ferries from Dover-Dunkerque... They are a lorry drivers ferry company who also take cars to make up numbers. I'm not saying that they are luxurious, because they aren't, but you get a good crossing at a good price!!

Oh, and take all the figures for the journey with a pinch of salt... There can be variations!! But definitely make use of the Autoroute's as they are well worth the toll fees for the ease of journey!
