Gearbox leak OMEGA MV6 2.6 2002
« on: 06 June 2012, 17:26:20 »

Hi there

I've got a leak from the Auto gearbox. The last garage said they cudnt find one on the box itself, but I've now traced it to dripping out under the Driverside front bonnet end - gearbox cooler pipes, but I don't know which ones are the box pipes as there are 2 sets of pipes running parallel which I can see a leak from a junction there. Anybody got a schematic or any idea which ones are which please?

Send Rich a PM, he`s breaking a 2.6 auto...
Thank's for that, I did indeed recieve a message and spent a fair old chunk of today stripping the engine bay!
 :y

Hi Rich
As you look under the bonnet - its the 4 pipes running parallel down the left hand side of the engine from back to front, they have several joins due to bends, here's a schematic that RobG kindly sent me:
Pipes from cooler rad
http://opeloem.com/vauxhall/omega_1994_2003/transmission/four_speed_automatic_transmission/oil_cooler_pipes_and_hoses_contd_/y26se_y32se_engines.html
I'm not desperate for them now, as have managed to join up the leaky one, but another is a bit rusty n could go later eh..
I'd need P&P please to ...
Thanx mate
Keith Martin
Just to confirm.
The four pipes that are attached to the chassis rail, two of them are for the power steering oil cooler, the other two are, as you say, for the auto gearbox cooler.
The picture you have linked to does not include the pipes that run down the chassis rail. If you just need the pipework in the link you provided (i.e. item number 1) then that is already off the car. Also the oil cooler itself (item number 7) is also off the car and in very good condition, if you need it...

Now, the pipes in this link...
http://opeloem.com/vauxhall/omega_1994_2003/transmission/four_speed_automatic_transmission/oil_cooler_pipes_and_hoses/20se_x20se_x20xev_y22xe_z22xe_x25xe_y26se_x30xe_y32se_u25td_x25td_engines.html
...are the ones that I think you are after, items four and seven. (5 & 8 are from an earlier Omega)
These pipes are now loose on the vehicle but they won't manoeuvre out from under the steering box. I have loosened the box from it's mounts but it looks like I'll have to remove it completely, and maybe the brake servo too...

Also, you mention that your pipes are rusty? On this vehicle they are stainless (or maybe aluminium? I have the memory of a goldfish!), so I don't see how they can be rusty unless you are on about the p/s pipes?

Could you please confirm, which item numbers you need.

Cheers,
Rich.

Hi Rich

Sorry if it appears I haven't replied - I did twice yesterday - somehow - dunno how you din't get my messages. I'm not doin the work meself, am on the second Garage now that didnt fix the minor problem - 1st one didnt find the leak at all, but charged me well just for topping the box up. I'll try take some pics tomorrow n send em to you, seeing as the schematics appear to be on the RH side of the engine, whereas my leak - n pipes are on the LH side...

Cheers Keith

No need to apologize Mate, it's not that I'm not receiving your messages, just that I'm having trouble getting what you are on about... probably my fault, some say I'm a bit dim!

They do say a picture paints a thousand words...

This picture shows the (U.K.) drivers side of the engine bay, as you stand in front of the car and look at the engine bay it is, as you say above, on your left. The diagrams provided by 'RobG' assume you are sitting in the vehicle so they are described as being on the right.
In the picture the black pipes that are on the airfilter bracket are for the power steering pipes.
The silver pipes below the bracket, that are loose, with the rubber bits attached to them are the auto box cooler pipes.

Does this explanation come across as understandable to you?

Further to your last Private Message. If you message me your e-mail address then I can send out an invoice for payment of parts you have requested upto yet.
I'll just remove all the auto box plumbing and keep it safe whilst you decide if you need any further items.
Would you like me to keep the power steering pipes safe for you also?

Cheers,
Rich.

Good news Keith, I've managed to remove the pipes running parallel down the left hand side of the engine from back to front, as requested.

Here are all of the items you required, do you still need them?

Cheers,
Rich.

Hi Rich no worries my Paypal email is keefeymartin@yahoo.com   or you can send your bank account details and I can just pay it straight in via Santander Bank Transfer

I'll take the bits anyway like I said as you've gone to som much trouble. The car is goin back in for re- repair Friday now, as I have few mileage trips ths week and Saturday. The mechanic reckons he won't need to buy parts.

Thanx again

Hiya Keith, if you don't need any parts then it seems silly to pay for these items... you wanna wait to see what your mechanic says before you commit to purchase them?
Just let me know...
