Tech 1
« on: 15 June 2012, 09:06:09 »

Omega 2.2 has been playing up since I garaged it (its been living outside for the last 6 years, I was wondering if all the plugs are drying out). First a management light cleared by checking lambda connections. Then a 4500 rev limit following a slightly longer starting time, instant start the next day and full revs. Its time to read the codes I think, I was going to buy a reader but a workmate who used to work in our garage has access to some vauxhall kit which he reckons is tech 1. Is this A) going to plug in and B) provide any useful results?

tech1 is not compatiable with Omegas, you need tech2.

From reading other posts on here the cam sensor is the prime suspect but I want to check before spending. The question I forgot to ask was is the 2.2 sensor the same as one of the 2 available for the 2.0 engine.

Nope

Just found the how to change the sensor guide and have found the 9052850 part no. Looking on e bay (avoiding the £12 non oems) and wondering if the "genuine" part for £72 is genuine when I read further down the listing and find the phrase "vauxhall packed". Just using e bay as reference and i'm wondering if a hand held odb2 reader or obd2 software for a laptop is a good buy.

I would not chance it on eBay, get it from a Vx dealer. Blag trade if you can, best way is joing Autobahnstormers (ABS)

Too many reports of sensors sourced elsewhere giving grief

Vx it is, I like e bay for the pictures and a rough idea of what things will cost.

For his car maybe but early omega's would only take tech one, My 'm' reg 2.0 was one of them!

Right, read the codes. 0340 camshaft sensor no signal. Off to my local Vx dealer then. Thanks for the advise  :y

Ps I did plug in the tech 1 it would have read anything up to 99.
