Watching a cookery programme...Why are egg shells pure white in America? Never seen an egg the same as we have here so what's the difference?

American poultry farmers tend to use "White Leghorn" chickens (breed) for the retail market as they are known to lay white eggs. Other breeds such as Rhode Island Reds lay predominately brown eggs most of which are sold to food manufacturers for processing
