Air Con - Re Gassing
« on: 09 July 2012, 23:08:23 »

Just found a guy and he is offering a reasonable price for regassing.

Any thing I need to check in advance or questions I need to ask before I take the car to him.

Check you condenser rad for signs of it breaking down and falling apart.  Easiest way is to drop the engine undertray off and see what drops out. It will be pretty obvious.

There's no point paying for a re-gas, if it's going to pi$$ straight out again!  :y

And make sure there is a pressure check, not just a check for leaks!

Or a vacuum test ;)

If the guy doing the regassing knows his trade then he will evacuate the system and conduct a vacuum test before attempting to refill the system anyway.

Indeed, but my condenser rad is leaking and it still held a Vacuum for the correct time, even though the re-gas only lasted about 4 weeks.

I'm not overly upset as I knew it was leaking before it went in but just didn't realise how much ::)

If he's using one of the newer machines there's very little he can cock up.
You tell the machine what vehicle you're working on and it does the rest. Think it has to hold a vacuum for around 30 mins then the machine will allow a fill. The amounts being as specified in the machines database.
The one I saw being used even recorded air temp at the vents when it was done with a remote thermometer.
If you think the system may be leaking ask them to pressure test with nitrogen before the regas.
