Postal surcharges for 'Olympics' areas.
« on: 24 July 2012, 23:35:41 »

It appears deliveries to certain areas within the Olympics will be subject to a £1 or so additional charge.

UPS are the only courier company allowed within these areas and the other companies have to pay UPS to take the delivery into these areas.

£25 surcharge for 'Lock Down' venues.

A lockdown venue is a secure Olympic site where, for security reasons, normal access is strictly controlled. There are 49 lockdown venues in London and at other Olympic venues; they include everything from the main Olympic stadium to hotels used by officials.

Access for parcel delivery has been exclusively granted to the official logistics supplier, UPS. All parcels delivered by UPS into these sites will be subject to the UPS delivery charge and a security surcharge.

On the face of things isn't corporatism great?  It's a wonder they're not charging for the air people have to breathe within these hallowed boundaries.

These Lady bitss just don't know when to reel it in - the money grabbing bastids that they are.

For further investigation Turk can you give a link to those figures?

I see even Big Ben has been sold out to it.

It is believed to be the first time the bell has rung outside its regular schedule since 15 February, 1952. On that occasion, it tolled every minute for 56 strokes for the funeral of King George VI

.. and for it to do so again purely to join the charade of political willy-waving that is the Olympics is pretty disrespectful, IMHO.

Aach – this is getting right on my teats now.

It now appears that this country is being run to satisfy the whims of special interest groups, lobbyists, contributors to political parties, corporations, big business and any other individuals or group able to pull the wool over the eyes of distinctly third-rate politicians, government ministers (and civil servants) by employing fancy speak that promises much but delivers little - except for those favours collected by certain people as part the cosy quid pro quo that is always evident when such dealings are abound.

Who would ever have thought that as a result of this event - of what has become primarily a corporate/big business fest - we would have military units deployed on the streets, legions of armed police roaming around, special traffic arrangements invoked - the disobedience of which will result in summary justice, surveillance of the general population to what can only be described as being an alarming extent and the sight of other ‘operatives’ actively seeking out any apparent breaches of the strict rules of contract which have been accepted in turn for sponsorship by corporate concerns.

I thought the Olympics were all about the display of excellence, of human endeavour and an exhibition of athletic prowess combined in a festival that was open to all - without restriction.

It seems to me that such a notion is misplaced and one’s experience of the coming event will very much depend on following the strict rules, not making a fuss, not inconveniencing the great and good while on their own way to experience the richness of their privileged position and finally, of course, paying dearly for most things connected to the Olympic experience.

The arrangements for the London Olympics have been commented on by many people, for a number of reasons, but as far as I’m concerned, the ability of the government of the day and of the establishment to demonstrate the lengths they are prepared to adopt in the effort to achieve their aims, should be a salutary lesson to us all that things have changed fundamentally in how the legislature (and associated arms) view the belief that the citizens of this country are free to associate with whomever they please, at whatever time they choose and in whatever reasonable (lawful) manner they desire.

Of course you forgot wearing the correct brand of trainers, and paying with the correct credit card. Those who desire to consume vegetable matter or meat in any recognisable or non-processed form need not apply, etc. ;)
