Sorry to start new thread but can you tell me min. rear pad/disc min thickness?

need to measure these at the weekend and i dont trust the haynes.

ps, thought freecall had answered this on a previous thread but he was talking about his wheel alignment measurements  ;D

Imo, any pad with less then 5mm on it needs replacing

ok, thanks TG. Two q's to that then...... does 5mm inc. the backing plate of the pad? and do you know what min disc thisckness should be at ze rear? :)

Autodata shows the following:

Minimum disc thickness - 10mm
Disc thickness variation - 0.010mm
Disc runout - 0.10mm
Minimum pad thickness - 6mm

Pad thickness measurement includes lining & backing plate.

The 5mm is just the friction surface  ;)

After that, they tend to heat up a fair bit under hard use so I always change them a bit early  :)

As for the discs, is they a lip on the edge yet ?

Again, if its just a small lip (1mm ish) I tend to attack it with a angle grinder before I fit new pads or they don't sit properly on the disc when you brake.

Variation is the figure that dictates how much the disc thickness can be out at any given point. (eg, if you measured 11mm thick at the 12 o clock position, that thickness cannot increase or decrease by any more than 0.010mm at any other position).

Runout is how true the disc is when it is spun on it's centre axis.
