makes a cambelt on v6 easy!!
« on: 21 August 2012, 21:54:41 »

;D just got an engine and box out of a porsche 911, now have to replace broken head studs, cam chain, guides, tensioners sprockets, etc etc, everything has to come off to do this, it was laid up 15years ago, and we just dug it out of the garage, started but smoke would have put a burning oilfield to shame :'( intersting job , but damned complicated and have to make loads of special tools!! ho hum!!

Only time they don't is when flat out and approaching the red line - like they deserve to be. :-*

ok pics being sent to me prob 2moro!! only have pics of the entire car after its 16year hibernation, when i first got it running,
pics of motor can be got but it dont look pretty at the mo!! although i suppose it may be interesting to someone who has never seen a porsche flat 6 it has no cooling fan/alternator, or shrouds etc or injection equipment, so you will only see a partially stripped motor, let me know :o
n the meantime an attempt to make a special tool to undo the camshaft sprockets met with a dismal end, so try another version 2moro

I can't stand the noise they make; it sounds like a badly adjusted chainsaw to me.

The Omega cam belt is easy if the tools are used. Although it's still more complicated than is actually necessary.

Have you seen how an NSX engine is locked and timed? It's nothing more complicated than four 5mm pins! And that's a quad cam V6 with variable valve timing.
